As Yale School of Art starts its academic year, a convocation event surrounding a selected text is held. The printed and moving announcement posters were informed by the themes of 2025’s selected book Directed by Desire: The Collected Poems of June Jordan.
Thinking of points in texts as ❶ visually sufacing the act and the power of poetry, what it induces a reader to do, ❷ a parallel to how Jordan breaks the conventional rhythm of poetry, ❸ an ambivalent space where disturbance (of reading) and expression of a cautious attentiveness coexist, ❹ a connecting visual motif to a pointilized still-life flower—an allusion to desire.
