Poster

Poster for Africanus Okokon’s Yale Sculpture Visiting Lecture. The commissioner’s one request was to include the image of Okokon’s work, Supremacy Cuts. The work sampled a barbershop poster that catalogues four kinds of African-American male cuts in multiple-stroke colored grids.
To echo this, four different colors were mixed to match the digitally printed background colors of the four faces in the image. The inks were then silkscreened to print the textual information of the lecture, through an underlying grid of the four colors repeatedly alternating.
Since the production of the poster involved five different layers of printing(digital inkjet + 4-color screen prints) there was an opportunity to have some posters showing different stages in the process. A few versions of in-between posters were hung up along with the one with all five layers.
